Partnering to Save Lives

We are proud to partner with Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital San Antonio to provide an assistance program for donors and recipients in need, as well as, an awareness education program to show individuals the existing need for organ donation today, allowing anyone to BE THE GOOD by volunteering to be a living organ donor.  Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital San Antonio has provided healthcare service to San Antonio, its surrounding counties, Texas, and the world for over 45 years with their 26 facilities providing services from wellness and preventative medicine to the Texas Transplant Institute which currently maintains the largest living donor program in the United States.

Today the Texas Transplant Institute programs are approved and accredited by the United Network of Organ Sharing and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.  The solid abdominal organ transplant program was first established in 1984 and in the same year San Antonio Methodist Healthcare completed its first kidney transplant.  The Texas Transplant Institute has since added a blood and marrow stem cell transplant program to become the first organization to offer such extensive transplant services.  Creating the largest living donor program in the United States has allowed the Texas Transplant Institute to match Kidneys for individuals all over Texas and The United States from age 17 to 78.

If you feel that you are ready to be a living donor please call the Texas Transplant Institute's Living Donor hotline at 800-888-0402.

In 2008 the Texas Transplant Institute, through their Paired Kidney Donation program, performed the first simultaneous paired kidney transplant between two donors and two recipients.  Months later the first three-way paired kidney transplant.  This Paired Kidney Donation program has grown since its inception and in November of 2010, they performed the largest paired kidney exchange which included 23 kidney transplant recipients in a month’s time.  Watch the video below to learn more about this amazing life saving effort.
